SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

Session #1 - What the Future Looks Like for Seniors

Due to the whole Baby Boomer phenomenon, 10,000 people are now turning 65 every day! This means two things: Over the next 30 years there will be the construction of an increasing number of facilities and...an increasing number of residents. Social Security, Medicare and insurance issues will change the face of elder living in America. And…during their lifetime, God was slowly removed from society. They probably won’t know "The Old Rugged Cross."  But they will be hungry and thirsty for hope and truth, because when you get old, you start to think more seriously about these things! This is a ripe harvest field, one that promises to continue to get even riper!

Session #2 - Conducting Meaningful Meetings
Holding a meeting for older people is a completely different
undertaking than any other meeting a church might hold. While this session will deal with making sure every minute counts in a service for seniors, there will be pointers for any meeting you may be called upon to lead! (Also, a report from the Shining Light team at Fairhaven.)

Session #3 - Shifting from Social Visits to Evangelism
The admonition in James regarding "widows" does not stipulate
a presentation of the gospel. It simply refers to “visiting” them. However, along the way, probably 25 years ago,
SL2S (formerly called HOPE Ministries) concluded that if we only visit, if we only bring bananas and oranges, if we only write letters for them, if we only read a book to them...we may never again have an opportunity to share the gospel with them. It happened to us a couple of times! Then we understood the remorse of Dwight L Moody after deciding against an altar call after one Sunday evening meeting. That night the Chicago fire raged through the city. He vowed, “Never again!” It is a good basic aim always to say something about the story of salvation, even if it must be short. In this session you will receive practical ideas! (A report from a Shining Light team member from Heritage Woods Rockford.)
